ASSAM ACT NO. XIII OF 1961 THE ASSAM GANJA AND BHANG PROHIBITION ( AMENDMENT ) ACT, 1961 ( As passed by the Assembly ) Received the assent of the Governor on the 5th May 1961 [ Published in the Assam Gazette, Extraordinary, dated the 6th May 1961 ] An Act further to amend the Assam Ganja and Bhang Prohibition Act, 1958 ( Assam Act XXI of 1959 ) Preamble. WHEREAS it is expendient further to amend the Assam Act Assam Ganja and Bhang Prohibition Act, 1958, herein- XXI 1959. after called the Principal Act, in the manner herein- after appearing; It is hereby enacted in the Twelfth Year of the Re- public of India as follows :- Short title, 1. (1) This Act may be called the Assam Ganja extent and and Bhang Prohibition ( Amendment ) Act, 1961. commence- ment. (2) It shall have the like extent as the Principal Act. (3) It shall come into force at once. Amendment 2. In the long title of the Principal Act, for the word of the long title of Assam 'and' occuring in two places between the words 'manu- Act XXI of facture' and 'sale' the word 'or' shall be substituted. 1959. Amendment 3. In section 3 of the Principal Act, in clauses of section 3 (b), (c), (d), and (e) for the word 'and' occuring of Assam between the words 'ganja' and 'bhang', the word 'or' Act XXI of shall be substituted. 1959. Amendment 4. In sub-section (1) of section 11 of the Principal of section 11 Act, for the words and punctuation (,) 'Any Officer f Assam of the Departments of Excise and Police not below the Act XXI of 1959. rank of Inspector', the words and the punctuation (,) 'Any Officer of the Department of Excise not below the rank of Assistant Inspector of Excise, any officer of the Department of Police not below the rank of Sub- Inspector of Police', shall be substituted.
