The Ist August 1966 No.LJL.13/66/6 .- The following Act of the Assam Legislative Assembly which received the assent of the Governor is hereby published for general information. ASSAM ACT XXII OF 1966 [Received the assent of the Governor on the 29th July, 1966] THE ASSAM VILLAGE DEFENCE ORGANISATION ACT, 1966 [Published in the Assam Gazette Extra-ordinary, dated the 2nd August, 1966] An Act to provide for the constitution of an organisation for assisting the police in the maintenance of law and order and certain other matters ancillary thereto. Preamble. Whereas it is expedient to provide for the constitu- tion of an organisation to be known as the "Assam Village Defence Organisation" for assisting the police in the maintenance of law and order, peace and tranquillity in the State of Assam ; jaCez'de It is hereby enacted in the Seventeenth Year of the Republic of India as follows :--- Short title, extent and commence- ment.
