The Dehra Dun Act, 1871 (Act No. 21 of 1871) was enacted on 11 July 1871 to give legal validity to the application of existing laws and regulations in the Dehra Dun district during British rule. Its main purpose was to regularise the administration and judicial system in the district. India Code

1. Extension of laws

o All the Regulations and Acts that were already in force in the district of Saharanpur were declared to apply to Dehra Dun as well.

o This validated earlier administrative and legal actions taken in the district. India Code

o The High Court and the Board of Revenue were given the same powers over Dehra Dun as they exercised in other parts of the province.

o This ensured a uniform system of justice and revenue administration. India Code

o The District Court of Saharanpur was declared to be the District Court for Dehra Dun until the government established a separate arrangement. India Code
