Preamble. Whereas it is expedient to amend Assam Act the Gauhati Municipal Corporation Act, I of 1973. 1969 hereinafter called the principal Act, in the manner hereinafter appearing ; It is hereby enacted in the Twenty- ninth Year of the Republic of India, as follows :- Code Short title, 1. (1) This Act may be called the extent and Gauhati Municipal Corporation (Amend- commence- ment. ment) Act, 1978. (2) It shall have like extent as the principal Act. (3) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 23rd day of August, 1978. Amendment 2. In the second proviso to sub- of Section 425 of Assam section (1) of Section 425 of the principal Act I of 1973. Act, the word "three" appearing between the words "of" and "years" in the last line shall be substituted by the word "four". Repeal and 3. (1) The Gauhati Municipal Cor- Saving. poration (Amendment) Ordinance, 1978 (Assam Ordinance No. I of 1978) is here- by repealed.
