Legislative West Bengal Act X of 1961

THE BURDWAN UNIVERSITY (AMEN,DMENT)

ACT, 1061.

[Passed by the West Bengal Legislature.] [Assent of the Governor was first published in the Calcutta Gazette, Extratordinatry, of the 27th April, 1961.] [27th April, 1961.] An Act to amend the Burdwan Unimersity Act, 1959.

WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Burdwan University Act, 1959, for the purposes and in the manner hereinafter appearing;

It is hereby enacted in the Twelfth Year of the Republic of India, by the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows :— This Act may be called the Burdwan University (Amendment) Act, 1961.

2. In section 4 of the Burdwan University Act, 1959 (hereinafter referred to as the said Act),—

(1) in clause (2), for the words "or manage", the words ", manage or recognise" shall be substituted ;

(2) in clause (13), after the words "the residence and discipline of the students of the University", the words ", constituent colleges, affiliated colleges, fecognised colleges and other institutions recog- nised by the University" shall be inserted; and

(3) in clause (14),—

(a) for the words "control the post-graduate research work", the words "control post-graduate research work" shall be substituted, and

(b) for the words "the constituent and affiliated colleges and the institutions", the words "constituent colleges, affiliated colleges., reeo gnised colleges and other institutions" shall be substituted.

3. In clause (b) of sub-section (2) of section 5 of the said Act, after the word "holding", the words "or having been elected to" shall be inserted.

4. In section 8 of Aie said Act,—

(1) for clauses (ix) and (x) of sub-section (1), the.

following clauses shall be substituted, namely "(ix) the General Manager, Durgapur Steel Project, Hindusthan Steel Limited, ex-o fficio;

(x) the Coal Mining Adviser, Department of Mines and Fuel, Ministry of Steel, Mines and Fuel, Government of India, ex-officio ;" ;

(2) in the proviso to sub-section (4),—

(a) for the word, figure and brackets "and (xiii)", the word, figures and brackets ", (xiii) and (xiv)" shall be substituted; and

(1) for the words "Teachers of the University, constituent colleges or affiliated colleges", the words "Teachers of the University or Colleges or as members of Governing Bodies of Colleges" shall be substituted.

5. In section 13 of the said Act,—

(1) for the words "called into question", the words "called in question" shall be substituted; and

(2) after the words "duly appointed", the words "or elected" shall be inserted.

6. In clause (g) of sub-section (.5) of section 21 of the said Act, for the words "withdrawal of degrees, diplomas, certificates", the words "institution and conferment of degrees, diplomas, titles, certificates'' shall be substituted. Amend- ment of section 5.
