Preamble

C GOVERNMENT OF WEST BENGAL LEGISLATIVE DEPARTMENT West Bengal Act XXXIX of 1979 THE WEST BENGAL PUBLIC LIBRARIES ACT, 1979. [Passed by the West Bengal Legislature.] [Assent of the President was first published in the Calcutta Gazette, Extraordinary, of the 7th January, 1980.] [7th January, 1980.] An Act to provide for the establishment of public libraries in the State of West Bengal and to regulate, guide, control, supervise and to grant recognition to the existing libraries in the State as also to provide for a comprehensive rural and urban library service in the State of West Bengal. WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the establishment of public libraries in the State of West Bengal and to regulate, guide, control, supervise and to grant recognition to the existing libraries in the State as also to provide for a comprehensive rural and urban library service in the State of West Bengal; It is hereby enacted in the Thirtieth Year of the Republic of India, by the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows :- CHAPTER I Preliminary.
