What this Act covers

Wealth-tax is no longer charged. Section 3 levies it only for an assessment year beginning before 1 April 2016, the words having been narrowed by the Finance Act, 2015, so no wealth-tax is payable for the assessment year 2016-17 or any year after it. The Act itself has not been repealed and is still the law for the years it covered, which is why assessments, appeals and recoveries under it continue to be litigated.
