Section 1 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 deals with short title, extent and commencement. This Act may be called the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. The Act came into force on 26 Oct 2006.

(1) This Act may be called the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

(2) It extends to the whole of India 1***.

(3) It shall come into force on such date2 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
